What is high resistance grounding?

High resistance grounding (HRG) is when the neutral point of an electrical system, often utilized on generator and transformer grounding, is connected to ground through a current limiting resistor. Detecting ground faults can then be performed by current sensors. In many applications, this type of electrical supply system can continue to operate with a ground fault, and controls ground-fault voltage on driven equipment, preventing hazards. HRG provides the best attributes of both solidly grounded and ungrounded three-phase power systems while remaining cost efficient.

High resistance grounding resistor (HRG) are a subset of neutral grounding resistors which allow for continuous and safer operation during ground fault conditions. Our advanced systems can detect ground faults and control transient overvoltages during phase-to-ground faults across multiple feeders, and come with many features to enhance protection, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
